After much debate over the last year, we are finally committed to building a new house down in The Villages and moving there permanently. This is something that we have been preparing for since we bought our Villa almost 4 years ago.
After visiting several times with friends in The Villages, we decided to buy a "practice retirement" place to see if we would like to live there permanently. It didn't take long to decide that this was the place we wanted to live. As Scott says, we "drank the Kool-aide" and were hooked on it. Last October, during a vacation down there, we sort of committed by putting a deposit on a lot in the newly opened Village of St. James in the south end of The Villages. We had a year to start building on it and, well ... we signed the paperwork to start on June 1st. Closing date is August 11th!
I know that you have heard us extol the virtues of The Villages, but we decided that it has the right mix of climate (read: no snow and cold) and active lifestyle that we want to be a part of. We also have a ready-build set of friends from Rockford already living there to help with the transition to the new area. But knowing how active we are in our lives here in Rockford, I expect that we will be just as active there and meet many new friends in a relatively short period of time.
