On Monday evening after work, we packed the car and loaded in the cat and started driving south. After a skanky evening at a motel in Marion, IL, we drove the rest of the way -- 16 hours --to our villa only to find the air conditioning was out. We called the property management people and they put us up in alternative accommodations for the evening. On Thursday morning, we did the walk-through with the builder and then went to the closing to take possession.
Gemma and Annie are staying permanently in Florida while I have returned to Rockford to finish working until the end of September. We keep in touch via phone calls, emails and Skype while trying to handle the various questions, service calls and basic "how was your day" conversations. I am trying to establish a routine here, but things like showings of the house and doing yard work after a week away have kept me off balance. It will settle down in a couple of weeks.
